About the contest rules.

Q. Who is eligible to enter?

A. The contest is open to amateur photographers of any age, sex, or nationality. Entrants under 20 years old must receive permission from their legal guardians to enter.

Q. How much does it cost to enter?

A. You may enter the contest free of charge, but internet fees that may occur in the application process will be the responsibility of the entrant.

Q. Can only photographs taken by an Olympus camera be submitted?

A. Submissions of photos taken from any camera manufacturer are welcome. However, only digitalized photo data are allowed.

Q. The rules say that the submitted photo must be original, unpublished work. Is it possible to enter photos used on my website or blog?

A. Photos that are stored by the entrant on an online album or used as a non-commercial photo collection on the entrant’s personal webpage or blog may be entered into the competition, but submissions of any photographs submitted to any other photo contest are prohibited.

Q. Can photos of people be submitted to the contest?

A. Photos of people may be submitted to the contest, but image rights and any other rights of the subject of the photo are the full responsibility of the entrant.

Q. Do we get any notification when our contest application is accepted?

A. An email confirming your entry will be sent for submissions from our online application form. If no confirmation email arrives, there may have been an error processing your submission. In that event, please contact us from the GWW Photo Contest online inquiry page. Sending the online application form without all the required information will be processed as an error, so please be very careful and check your online application form before sending it.

About the application process.

Q. How do I send my application?

A. Click “Apply button” on this website and follow the guidance procedure to fill in the required information. We will have you enter your personal data, information about your photo submission, and upload your photo data. Please make sure you go over the guidelines and rules of the contest before sending your application.

Q. What data type and file size should my photo be?

A. The file type of the photo should be a JPEG file, and the file size must be under 2 MB for one submission. Any photo data larger than 2 MB must be reduced to data less than 2 MB.

Q. Is it possible to send my photo data using media such as CD-Rs?

A. We will only accept submissions via the online application form.

Q. Is it possible to send a slide, negative, or a printed photo?

A. We will only accept submissions via the internet. We do not accept any non-digital formats such as slides. Note that we will only accept digitalized data sent to us via the internet by the procedure shown online.

Q. How many photos can one person enter?

A. Entries are limited to one photo per entry, but if the submission is not identical to the one already submitted, one can enter the contest as many times as one wants.

Q. I took a better photo than the one I already submitted. May I withdraw my submitted photo?

A. Photos already submitted to the contest may not be withdrawn.

Q. May I send my submission directly to Olympus or the GWW Photo Contest Office by email?

A. We will not accept any submissions to the contest other than those “GWW Photo Contest Application Button” on the Global Warming Witness—Mitsuaki Iwago Special Site. Please note that if the submission is sent to an improper address, the submission will not be accepted, and confirmation email will not be sent. In this event, the GWW Photo Contest Office will accept no responsibility to loss or whereabouts of data.

Q. What happens if the information entered to the online application form is incomplete?

A. You will not be able to send the online application form unless you fill out all the necessary information. Any lacking information will be pointed out to you on the webpage, so please follow the instructions shown on the screen.

Q. Won’t my data be corrupted or lost during the online data transmission?

A. The GWW Photo Contest Office will hold no responsibility for lost or corrupted data during transmission, so please make a backup copy of your submission before sending.

Q. I can’t upload my file.

A. Please go through the instructions on the online application form once more. If you still have trouble uploading your file, please make an inquiry via the online inquiry form.

Q. May I submit multiple or composite pictures?

A. We ask that you send data for one photo per submission. Multiple or composite photographs are not accepted. If you want to enter more than one photo, please fill out the entry form and enter once for each photo.

Q. The address noted in the confirmation email of my application does not seem to be working.

A. Some email software may display the address with a break in the line. If you find yourself unable to access the address by clicking it, try copying the address and pasting it to your web browser.

Announcement of the winner.

Q. Will there be any open judging?

A. There will be no open judging.

Q. When will the results be announced?

A. During the period of January 2010 to February 2010, the GWW Photo Contest Office will contact the winners via the email address sent when entering the contest. The winners will be announced on the GWW Photo Contest website around the end of January 2010 to February 2010. Please note that we will not respond to any inquiries about the outcome of the contest.
