| 10 Yen Game Machine |
|
I spotted this game machine in front of an old-fashioned neighborhood candy store. You play the game by inserting a 10 yen coin and flipping a lever to try and knock the coin into a "win" hole. If you succeed, you win a piece of gum, but if you miss, you get nothing.
It's a very primitive, all-mechanical game that delivers its fun without using computer chips, motors, or electricity. The Japanese “manga” style cartoons on its face are of baseball players, but the game itself doesn't really have anything to do with baseball. One rarely comes across this kind of old-fashioned game machine in Japan anymore, but they were a big hit in their day with the local kids.
For this Fotomo I shot on film, scanned the photos, and then corrected the perspective in Adobe® Photoshop®, so it's a kind of transition piece between film and digital technologies. |
